January 2010 Update!

2 and a half years old!

I haven't made any updates about Rowan in quite awhile. I've been so busy. I have tons of photos and have been keeping notes so that hopefully I can fill everyone in on him. It has been pretty cold here in Denver so that has kept us indoors. We did find out that playing at an old mall that barely has any stores is fun. Rowan really likes to play on the elevator. I and the store right next to it are a little bummed he figured out how to work it. Ding! Ding! Over and over as it goes up and down and the doors open. Rowan does not really connect with other kids yet except for his cousin Sloane. He is gaga for Sloaney! It is great when she comes and spends the night. They spend hours playing and it gives me a chance to rest a little. Who knew that two kids would be easier than one?

I wasn't able to take any classes this semester at school, but that is okay. Rowan and I have both been sick most of the month so it's better that I didn't have homework to turn in. I had been really excited to get into a housing development called Warren Village. Everything was great and looking fantastic and after months of waiting I thought for sure we would get in. It would mean I could go to school, we would have a home and we would be moving in a positive direction. At the final interview though I was too honest for my own good. I made the mistake of telling them that Rowan is being evaluated for Autism. I swear you could actually feel the energy of the interview room change. It went from "so this sounds good to you?" to "well you know that most daycare centers won't even accept Autistic children..." I understand that this place is just not set up to help mother's like me, but if not there, where? I was pretty heartbroken that the panel rejected us. I had put a bunch of eggs in that basket and the darn thing had a big hole.

Luckily I am a firm believer that everything happens as it should and that there is a reason. My BFF Miranda relayed this message to us "what you walk away from determines what you'll walk into." I love it.
